1st Summer Youth Olympic Games: Singapore 2010 on track

The Coordination Commission of the 1st Summer Youth Olympic Games concluded its first visit to the host city Singapore today.

Eight months after the host city announcement on 21 February 2008, the Singapore Organising Committee (SYOGOC) has already established all the foundations necessary to stage the Games in 2010.

“We are impressed with how the preparations have advanced. SYOGOC is very much on track”, said Sergey Bubka, Chairman of the Coordination Commission, at the end of the visit. “We can count on the full support of the whole of Government and all Singaporeans, as well as on a highly dynamic team committed to serving our vision for these Games”, concluded SYOGOC Chairman and IOC Executive Board member Ser Miang NG.

“Presentations were of a high standard and we can return home with the feeling that our partners in Singapore have well understood the mission entrusted to them, and that they can cope with the considerable time pressure. We just have to keep up the same pace and vigilance for the remaining 22 months until the opening of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games”, concluded Sergey Bubka.

The Coordination Commission is the group of representatives from the IOC and the Olympic Movement who will be monitoring the Youth Olympic Games preparations and guiding the Singapore Organising Committee.

Wishing To See Singapore Youths in 2010 Olympic Events At An East Coast Park Barbecue Pit

I am wondering if some of the Singapore Olympics and Games competition will be held at East Coast Beach Park near the barbecue pits. Events like beach volleyball, triathlon and sailing may see action along the barbecue-pit-rich beaches of East Coast Park in Singapore in 2010 for Youths as Olympic and Games organizers consider them worthwhile to stage.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to enjoy the outdoor space, the sun, the sand, the sea, the pit barbecued sauces plus the exciting Youth Olympics and Games sceneries along the shoreline of East Coast Park? Wouldn’t it be great if you can spend time with friends and family at such a barbecue pit along East Coast Park and yet witness youths competing in Olympic competitive games out at sea?

How often would you be able to tell your grandchildren of the occasions when you saw youths in action during Olympic games, while sampling barbecued food at a place as common as East Coast Park? How many memorable photographs of such events during the 2010 event in Singapore for youth at Olympic-level Games would you be able to amass while your chicken wing or satay is competing for a perfect tan on the sizzling barbecue pit?

Yes, this may be comical rhetoric, but it is also the dream of an ordinary Singapore. I wish to be involved as a spectator, soaking in the spectacular 2010 Youth events of Olympic spirits and Games atmosphere, appreciating every tasty moment of my barbecue involvement.

Let 2010 arrive in Singapore for Youth to participate in Olympics and Games, and of course let the flames commence.... for barbecues.

Thoughts And Comments On Singapore's 2010 Youth Games and Olympic

It is still early days before the Youth Olympics and Games, but I'll like to share some of my thoughts and comments. As a citizen of the host country, it is to be expected that I should support the Singapore YOG to be held in 2010. I really do. Undoubtedly, this is a great honour and privilege to be part of a nation to organize a global Olympics for Youths. The Singapore YOG will bring the globe’s aspiring 14 to 18 year old athletes together in the spirit of friendly Youth Olympic competition. Such a Singaporean experience to get closer to the Youth Olympic and Games in the year 2010 would likely come not more than once in an ordinary citizen’s lifetime.

I have other reasons to like the 2010 Youth Olympic and Games. Participation in the Youth Games at Olympic level Competitions as a spectator can be a fun family friendly event. I plan to round up members of my family to visit Singapore Youth Games venues to cheer young Olympians in Singapore. Soaking in the atmosphere during the Singapore YOG competitions should be thrilling affairs as spectators cheer and applaud their respective national Youth Olympic athletes.

As we read about the young competitors in the coming months, my kids can broaden and deepen their interest in the Singapore in 2010 for the Youth Games in particular, and sports in general. Hopefully good role models will rise to the occasion for my children to learn and grow. The making of an Youth Olympic champion certainly will involve talent, discipline, training, endurance, mental strength and many other intangible factors. I want my children to pick up the right knowledge, attitude and values on the path to their independence.

The Singapore Youth games in 2010 will also offer many chances to discover more of life when I visit new places as I have mentioned before in my other blog Seen This Scene That here. It is always better to watch the games right at the venues, rather than “live” on TV. The intense participatory experience of watching competitions “live” on site cannot be fully televised and replicated via LCD screens.
