Official Singapore YOG Logo Unveiled
Here’s a look at some memorable moments during the official Singapore YOG Logo launch. This event took place on the afternoon of 10 January 2009 during the YOG CAN! Carnival.
























After formal speeches, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, accompanied by other VIPs launched the sequence of mechanisms that would reveal the new Singapore YOG Logo. The logo will become one of the most prominent designs to feature in all YOG-related events leading up to the world’s first Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore in 2010.

In a candid remark to a group of supporters and well wishers, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan warned that what we were about to see was a complicated launch mechanism prepared by the engineering students of Nanyang Technological University. He need not have worried as the approximately two-minute long sequence, involving interconnected parts hung on a wall, moved without a hitch. It culminated in a countdown as a clock ticked down the final 10 seconds before a machine-gun burst of balloons revealed the impressive looking new Singapore YOG logo.
























A shower of confetti rained from the white tented roof as the audience cheered and clapped in a spontaneous moment of wild celebration.

Spirit of Youth – the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Logo –
celebrates Singapore 2010 in an adventurous, open and fun way. It evokes the Singaporean sense of confidence and progress.

The three distinct elements of the logo are:

The Flame of Passion

The intense red flame represents the passion to learn and the power
of positive thinking. Red is also the national colour of Singapore.

The Star of Champions

The rich purple star symbolises excellence and the pride of
representing one’s nation.

The Crescent of Tomorrow

The crescent reflects dynamic youth, full of promise. It has the lush green and calm blue colours of a tropical island city.

The Singapore 2010 Wordmark

Its active appearance comprises individual and unique characters
that signify harmony among the diverse participants.

Spirit of Youth inspires all of us to express the Olympic spirit and celebrate the first-ever Youth Olympic Games.

Singapore YOG Logo Design Merit Award Winners

Ten merit awards were handed out on 9 December 2008 to the top five entries in the 18-and-under Category (for those aged 18 years and below) and the top five entries in the Open Category.

There was no outright winner for the YOG Logo Design Competition as judged by the thirteen members of the YOG Logo Design Competition panel.

Launched in July this year, the Singapore 2010 Logo Design Competition
received a total of 1,856 entries from 44 different countries.

Participants were encouraged to come up with an original and creative design that embodies a youthful spirit, the values of Olympism, and the Singaporean identity. The ease of application and reproduction of the logo designs was also taken into
consideration.

Mr Goh Kee Nguan, Chief Executive Officer of SYOGOC, gave out the prizes at a prize presentation ceremony at SYOGOC.

A pair of tickets to the Singapore 2010 Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and a $200 Samsung voucher (sponsored by Samsung)were given to each merit award winner.

SINGAPORE YOG 2010 LOGO DESIGN COMPETITION RECEIVED 1590 ENTRIES

At the close of the Singapore YOG 2010 Logo Design competition on 29 August 2008, 1590 entries were received by the YOGOC.

Of these 1590 Singapore YOG Logo Design Competition entries, 856 entries came from youths, while the Open category received 734 entries.

Judging by these numbers of Singapore YOG Logo Design Competition entries, this is a very credible figure. The interest in the Singapore YOG 2010 Logo Design Competition has been global as well as local.

This high number of responders indicates good publicity of Singapore 2010 YOG. There is also strong interest of youths across the globe for the Singapore YOG 2010.

Singapore YOG 2010 Logo Design Competition

The Singapore YOG Organising Committee (SYOGOC) has started a Logo Design Competition for the Singapore Olympics for youths.


Format of Competition
This competition is open to only individuals. Group submissions are not allowed.

Members of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC), the panel of judges and their immediate families are not permitted to take part in this competition.

Professional organisations are not permitted to take part in this competition but their employees may participate in the competition in their personal capacity.

The competition is divided into two categories:
a) Youth category (18 and below)
b) Open category

Each participant may submit only one design proposal.

Judging

Contest entries will be judged by a panel of local and international experts and their decision will be final.

Submission

Entries can be submitted online.

All participants must complete the entry form which includes:
(i) Personal particulars
(ii) Creative rationale (in about 200 words) explaining the concept of the design.

All online entries should not exceed 1MB in file size and must be submitted in .jpeg or .gif format.

Participants may be asked to submit a higher resolution rendition of their design.

The closing date for submission is 29 August 2008.

Guidelines for Design

The logo should cover three broad themes:
(i) Youthful spirit
(ii) Values of Olympism
(iii) The Singapore identity

The Singapore 2010 logo should include the following 4 elements:
a) The original distinctive element.
b) The name of the City and the year of the Youth Olympic Games.
c) The Olympic symbol.
d) The wordmark “Youth Olympic Games”.
