Singapore Wins First Shooting Gold, Silver

Singapore has won a gold and a silver at the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) in Pune, India.

Aqilah Sudhir shot her way to the Comonwealth Youth Games (CYG) Gold medal when she won Singapore's first medal in the Women's 10-metre Air Rifle event on 13 October 2008. She led the pack with a final score of 501 points.

Christopher John Chia Sim Chen won Singapore's second medal in the Men's 10-metre Air Pistol by with a final score of 555 points. Chia was just two points behind Canada's Matthew James Hendry who took gold with a final score of 557.

The Team Singapore Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) contingent is made up of 16 athletes aged 14 to 18 years old. They are competing for top honours in four sports - athletics, shooting, swimming and table tennis.

The III Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) began on October 12 and the athletes will be in Pune until October 18. More than 1,300 athletes with 350 officials from 71 countries are at the World's First Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) in Pune, India, participating in nine disciplines - athletics, badminton, boxing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, weightlifting and wrestling.

This is the first Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) to be held in Asia.

Congratulations to Singapore on winning the first Gold and Silver medals for shooting in the III Commonwealth Youth Games! You have done Singapore proud! Keep up the great results!
