Singapore Youth Olympic Games Dialogues

The Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) held dialogues with more than 60 foreign missions and representative offices based in Singapore.

These countries from the Olympic Council of Asia, European Olympic Committees, African National Olympic Committee (NOC) Association, Pan-American Sports Organisation and Oceania NOC attended 3 sessions at the SYOGOC HQ from 11-13 May 2009.

They learnt about the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. News on the latest updates on the progress on the Games’ preparation were shared.

The aim of these dialogues was to invite the missions and representative offices to be a part of Singapore 2010. They could participate in organising events, celebrating the Games, sharing news about the games and spreading the word about Singapore 2010.

455 Medals At Asian Youth Games

A total of 455 medals will be handed out to competitors at the Asian Youth Games.

A preview was given to members of the sporting fraternity on 12 May 2009.

The medal carries the Asian Youth Games logo as its centrepiece. It epitomises the spirit of the Games, highlighting the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship. This is seen on the side of the champion's ribbon.

The reverse side of the medal shows Frasia, the Asian Youth Games mascot to symbolise the friendships forged through the games.

There is also an orchid to represent Singapore as the host nation.

I will try to get a picture of the AYG medal soon....

Asian Youth Games Gold Medal Target For Singapore

Singapore is aiming to win one Asian Youth Games gold medal at the inaugural Asian Youth Games.

According to Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Community Development, Youth and Sports) Teo Ser Luck, Singapore has set this AYG gold medal plus another four medals of other colours target for our 90-member Asian Youth Games contingent to aim for.

Singapore's confidence stems from the quality of its youth athletes, especially in Asian Youth Games sports like bowling, sailing and swimming.

The first ever Asian Youth Games will give out medals between June 29 2009 to July 7 2009 to competitors who come to Singapore to participate in the nine sporting events.

Preliminary estimates put the number of participating countries at 24, with about 800 participants, excluding those from the Singapore contingent.

Good luck to Singapore's quest to win at least one gold medal and another four more.

Singapore Olympic Youth Games BMX Racing Venue

The Singapore Olympic Youth Games BMX Racing venue is at Tampines Mountain Biking Park, Tampines Estate, Singapore.

If you ask the locals, most would be more familiar with Sun Plaza Park which a neighbourhood park across the road from this BMX Racing venue.

Here is a video recording of the Singapore Olympic Youth Games BMX Rcing circuit. A BMX rider is filmed going through the circuit's dirt track in Tampines Mountain Bike Park.

This recording is jerky in some parts, but hey isn't that part of what a BMX racer is accustomed to?

I think the organizers may upgrade the BMX mountain bike route in preparation for the Olympic Games for Youths in 2010.

I'll try to get a grip on another video of the BMX Mountain racing circuit once it is ready.

Meanwhile, enjoy the video!
