Singapore Girls Win AYG Gold

In the Girls 4x100M Freestyle finals at the AYG last night, Singapore girls swam to a new national record of 3:46.91 minutes to win Gold medals.

The quartet of Koh Hui Yu, Quah Ting Wen, Amanda Lim and Lynette Lim presented Singapore with a gold medal winning performance at the Asian Youth Games (AYG) swimming meet in resounding style, finishing almost 4 seconds ahead of Team Republic of Korea.

Koh Hui Yu started the medal win while swim sensation Quah Ting Wen, who won the gold medal in the 100M freestyle finals, produced a spectacular swim, to the delight of local supporters. Amanda Lim, clocked a timing of 55.96 seconds for the third lap. Lynette Lim touched home and secured the gold medal for Singapore with the approing road of the crowd as they wrapped up the Asian Youth Games swimming tournament with a gold medal and a new national record for Singapore.

The Republic of Korea stopped the clock at 3:50.56 minutes to land silver while China stood third, clocking 3:51.34 minutes.

New Hui Fen, Krishna Darshini Win AYG Bowling Gold Medal

In today's (2 July 2009) Asian Youth Games (AYG) 2009 Bowling Girls Doubles competition, Singapore's New Hui Fen and Krishna Darshini won the gold medal.

New Hui Fen and Krishna Darshini led from start to finish over the six games to win Singapore's second Gold medal in the Asian Youth Games (AYG) 2009 Bowling Girls Doubles event.

The day before, New Hui Fen had won the first gold medal in the Bowling Girls Singles.

Thailand's team of Sathean Tanaprang and Saebe Yanee, were placed second while Oh Nu-Ri and Sim Ui-Jin from the Republic of Korea team took the bronze medal.

Krishna, Darshini (SIN) 1280
New, Hui Fen (SIN) 1400
Doubles Total: 2680

First AYG Gold Medal: Singapore

Singapore has won the first AYG gold medal at the Asian Youth Games (AYG) 2009 on 1 July 2009.

Singapore's New Hui Fen bowled her way to Singapore's first AYG gold medal of the Bowling Girls Singles event at the Asian Youth Games (AYG) 2009 when she completed her first AYG bowling competition event with a score of 1359 pins.

After confirming her first AYG gold medal win for Singapore, New Hui Fen was quoted as saying: "I'm happy with the results, but it wasn't the easiest competition."

Mukotani Misaki from Japan clinched the silver medal while Oh Nu-Ri from the Republic of Korea took the bronze.

New Hui Fen's detailed scores on her way to the first AYG gold medal for Singapore:
Games = 1 to 6
Score = 192 237 239 220 267 204
Total score = 1359
