First Winter Youth Olympic Games (WYOG) Host City
On 12 December 2008 at 11:00 GMT the name of the host city for the first Youth Olympic Winter Games (WYOG) will be known. Live results on the announcement of the host city will be available on www.olympic.org.
The two cities vying for the chance to be the host of the world's first Youth Winter Olympic Games (WYOG) in 2012 are the city of Innsbruck, Austria (www.innsbruck2012.com) and the city of Kuopio, Finland (www.kuopio2012.fi).
What is the Winter Youth Olympic Games?
The Winter Youth Olympic Games (WYOG) are a 10-day multi-sport, cultural and educational event for young people and driven by young people. The YOG will add a new dimension to the Olympic ideal, complementing what is already being achieved through the Olympic Games and the numerous IOC projects to bring the Olympic values alive.
The WYOG will bring together talented athletes to participate in high-level competitions and lead them on their way to becoming true Olympians. This event will allow the Olympic Movement to extend its reach and stimulate worldwide sports activities.
More details about the first Winter Youth Olympic Games (WYOG) can be downloaded from www.olympic.org WYOG report_1 and WYOG report_2.
We wish Innsbruck and Kuopio our best wishes and good luck to their Winter Youth Olympic Games (WYOG) bids.
