Asian Youth Games Singapore 2009
The Asian Youth Games 2009 (AYG) is a regional multi-sport event open to all Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) members for athletes aged between 14 and 17.
The inaugural Asian Youth Games (AYG) event will be held in Singapore from 29 June to 7 July 2009.
Objectives of the Asian Youth Games (AYG 2009) event:
• To gather the youth from around Asia in a celebration of youth, sports and learning
• To provide a platform for youths in Asia to engage in friendly competition and imbibe the olympic sporting values of excellence, friendship and respect
• To provide a forum for learning, cultural exchange and friendship among the youth
This sporting extravaganza will be the biggest sporting event for youngsters in Singapore for the year 2009 when the Asian Youth Games competition commences.
It is projected that 45 National Olympic Councils (NOCs) will send about 1,300 top juniors to compete in the 9 sports offered at the Asian Youth Games.
The sports events for the Asian Youth Games are Athletics, Aquatics (Swimming and Diving), FIBA 33 (3-on-3), Beach Volleyball, Bowling, Football, Sailing, Shooting and Table Tennis.
