Friends@YOG

We highlight news about the Friends@YOG programme of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

On 21 July 2009, the Friends@YOG school-twinning programme for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games reached a milestone 50 percent participation rate. Of the 205 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) participating in the Games, 103 NOCs have signed up to take part in the programme that gives young people around the world the opportunity to make friends, learn about one another’s culture and connect with the Games as well as the Olympic Movement.

Since December 2008, the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) has invited NOCs to select two schools from their country – a primary and secondary school – to be twinned with schools in Singapore.

“We are very encouraged by the strong support of the NOCs in nominating their schools to participate in Friends@YOG and helping us reach the 50 percent milestone just more than half a year into the launch. We hope this programme will help young people be truly global in terms of knowing a little about every NOC as we look forward to welcoming the world to Singapore come August 2010,” said Mr Lee Pak Sing, Director, Culture and Education Programme Division, SYOGOC.

Part of Singapore’s 2010’s Culture and Education Programme, Friends@YOG is a school-twinning programme endorsed by the International Olympic Committee.
